Learn the basics
Depending which product or products your organization uses to protect endpoints (and which endpoints you’re protecting!), check out the below 101 level e-learnings in Delinea University to ground yourself in the basics.
Privilege Manager
- Privilege Manager Dashboard – Familiarize yourself with the basics of your environment.
- Terminology – Understand what Delinea means in using terms like by Agent, Policy, etc.
- Policy Best Practices – Spend a little time learning about Delinea policy recommendations before diving into setting your own with stakeholders.
-
There is also a certification that we encourage your main PrivMan admins to complete.
Privilege Control for Servers (PCS)
-
Platform Training: PCS – Review the core curriculum for PCS, in particular the overview section.
Server Suite
- Review the use cases and configuration guidance for Rights & Roles
- Review the use cases and configuration guidance for Access Manager
We also strongly recommend that you consider getting a certified admin in place for whichever of the above solutions you are using. The training team offers certifications for platform (PCS), Server Suite, and Privilege Manager. Learn more.
Prepare the team
One of the most challenging and exciting parts of endpoint and server management is the variety of stakeholders impacted by the decisions security makes and the policies you set. In advance of configuring your solutions, host discussions with key colleagues. Our experts recommend the following, though this list may vary or overlap based on your specific organization and project:
- Identity admins - AD/Entra/etc
- Network Admins
- Information Security
- Desktop Admins
- Application Deployment Team
- Project Management Team
- Change Order Admins
- End User Experience
- Governance and/or Compliance Teams
- Administrators for Supported Connectors for Integrations
Make sure you establish how you will handle feedback and requests; which teams set policies, and which establish access, for example.
Prepare the tech
A few tips to make sure your environment is set up for success for...
Privilege Manager
- On-prem installations are rare these days, but if this is your approach you will have server requirements and we recommend working with Professional Services.
- If you only have an on-prem active directory, you may need one server to perform AD synchronizations. However, this typically requires such a small amount of resources that it doesn’t require its own dedicated server.
- The only other asset requirement to consider is two test devices per type of OS (macOS/Windows respectively).
PCS
As this is a platform feature, review the Delinea Platform Prep article if you haven’t yet done so for team/tech prep guidance.
Server Suite
If you are newly using Server Suite (Delinea’s older version of PCS), please review the deployment guide for technical prep guidance. It is most likely that you are already working with a partner or Professional Services to deploy Server Suite. If not, we do recommend it.
